The US government knew from the start that Afghanistan was a lost cause. That is why the Bush regime focused on Iraq. Now its worse fears have been confirmed by the new ‘super envoy’ to Afghanistan, Lord Ashdown. The UK Telegraph reports Lord Ashdown as being fearful of a Third World War due to the instability there. He fears a world-scale Shia–Sunni war originating there. The present UN representative posted in Kabul, Tom Koenigs is no longer in the good books of either the US or the UK. They now want Ashdown, the former United Nations High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina to take on the reign there. And therein lay a tale of deception and racial prejudice.
Lord Ashdown, 66, is a veteran of the clash-of-civilizations game. His English, Christian and white biases coupled with a characteristic escapism makes him stave off any criticism in the future against any eventuality that might arise during his future tenure in Afghanistan. Also, to remove Koenigs from Kabul, he has to show everything in a bad light. He had made a royal mess earlier in the Bosnia-Herzegovina genocides. So he is naturally careful to cover his tracks this time right from the start. His only saving grace is that he has never fallen foul of either Bush or Blair. Hence, this posting is a sort of reward by the Western world to this faithful soldier. What does the US has to gain by such remarks from its future super-envoys?
President Bush has once declared that his battle against the Afghans is a Christ delegated war. Yet Christianity is a peace loving religion, which forbids violence. The Crusades against the Muslims had been unfortunate and better to be forgotten episodes in Christian history, or so many would prefer. Bush wants two things from Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden and other Taliban leaders and most importantly, strategic control there. Afghanistan will allow him to control the whole of Southeast Asia including Pakistan, India and China. There is nothing more convenient for him than to get a Shia-Sunni conflict started there and then informing the international community how the presence of the US is absolutely necessary to restore law and order. This role of reconciliator is one of the oldest tricks in world diplomacy. Lord Ashdown’s despair and sorrow for the ebbing peace of the world is despicable in the light of these considerations.
One other interesting fact to this story is the terming of the delegate as a ‘super-envoy’. It is as if, the evil in Afghanistan has reached such superhuman proportions that ordinary men will no longer do. A super-man of sorts is needed to control those barbarian Eastern hordes. The whites of this world still think of those in the East as uncontrollable, violent and self-destructive. People such as Bush and Ashdown do us favors by ruling us, or so they think.
